The Outdoors, Hiking and Grandma Gatewood have been the inspiration for quite a few musical works. Here's a few to check out: "With An Old Woman's Grace" a song about Emma by Mike Petee. Hear Alma Russ's song about Grandma! If you're interested in music and Ohio composers, check out Rick Sowash's CD "Music For The Appalachian Trail" Rick is an accomplished musician, composer AND storyteller with several books to his name. You can also hear an interview about the AT music and read his program notes. His book HEROES OF OHIO includes a story about Emma Gatewood! Read and listen to "Katahdin" -- his musical tribute to this endpoint of the AT. He also offers us an interesting story about his special "hiking find", The Cabin Down The Glen" Musicians Jeff & Paige have written a new song about Grandma Gatewood! Jeff & Paige are a husband-wife kids' musical duo based in Boulder, CO. Their songs and 5 albums are all science and nature-focused. "Mighty Wolf," their latest album, features a song about Grandma Gatewood and the Appalachian Trail. After first hearing about Grandma Gatewood from the parent of a pint-sized fan, they did some research and thought "What a great tale! This would make a fun kids' song." Jeff did a section hike of the AT through part of New Hampshire and all of Maine and creating the song was a fun way to relive his own wilderness journey. This acoustic song features lively fiddle and rhythmic bass guitar.
