This tobacco barn is located behind Emma & Perry's house. It was purchased from two miles away, taken apart, and brought down in a horse drawn wagon to the site. Perry rebuilt it and when it was finished he stood on his head on the cupola! In 1960, Perry's nephew Tom was living on the property. They put a concrete floor in the barn and Perry troweled 30 yards of concrete when he was 84 years old! To see more pictures of the barn, click on it. This house in Gallipolis belonged to James Monroe Gatewood (Perry's grandfather). Later he sold it to his granddaughter, Maybelle Small McIntyre and her husband O.O. McIntyre. Perry was the foreman who did all the renovations and built the wall around the house at that time. To see more pictures of the house, click on it. Perry Gatewood was once mayor of Crown City. This building still stands. It used to be a bank and its vault was brought in from another Ohio town. When the vault was in THAT bank, it had been robbed by Jesse James! | |
When Emma lived in Cheshire, Ohio she owned a trailer park on this site. In the top picture, you can see the front sidewalk where the trailers used to be. The picture of the trailer is of a similar style to the one Emma lived in. Cheshire no longer exists. It was purchased by the American Electric Power Company. |
