Did you know that an inordinate number of ships named Owen have sunk on the Great Lakes?
  • The John Owen was a side wheeler that burned at Port Stanley in April, 1860. Another John Owen sank in Lake Superior with all hands on November 11, 1919.
  • On November 1, 1878 a two-masted scow schooner, the D.R. Owen sank
  • A 90 foot wooden propeller named Owen sunk in Lake Ontario on October, 12, 1902
  • Steamer Ira H. Owen, a 262' steel steamer sank on November 28, 1905 in Lake Superior.
  • The Ira H. Owen was launched in 1872 and renamed 10 years later as the Monohansett. It sank on November 23, 1907.
  • The 62' tug Owen sank on December 6, 1921
