Lost Restaurants Of Downtown Cleveland

The Sheraton Kon Tiki was located in the Terminal Tower building as part of the Sheraton Cleveland Hotel complex (24 Public Square). It was third part of the Steven Crane chain of Kon Tiki Restaurans in partnership with Sheraton Hotels. Other locations included Montreal, Canada; Portland, Oregon and Cincinnati, Ohio. It's polynesian theme made it a particularly romantic spot.

Memories:

Nancy in Lakewood sent this story: "Well, Jim and I had graduated from college, but because of other endeavors, we hadn’t had the chance to get together for about 4 years. I was coming to Cleveland leaving Indianapolis, and coming to Cleveland just for a gathering for my group. And he called me and said, “I’d like to see you.” So we went to the ... Kon Tiki Room for a... after 4 years of not having seen each other. Um, I think we both over some type of a shrimp cocktail fell in love that night and six months later we were engaged. Went back several times afterwards because I moved to Cleveland because he was here. And, um, that, that has a very special spot and I’m so glad that the hotel is still there and that they’ve done so much (sic) good things." (May 4, 2018)

Janet Revelt sent this story: "The Kon-Tiki was an oasis for Clevelanders, especially during our gray Winter months. For us, it was a perfect wedding anniversary celebration, considering the date was December 28th. Just stepping through the door, warm South Sea breezes lifted spirits; or possibly it was their fanous MAI TAI, meaning "The Best" in Tahitian -- A blend of lime and honey with aged Jamaican rum, enhanced by a touch of ginger."
