Otto Moser's

Otto Moser's Café opened in 1893(Krause Building, 2042-2044 Sheriff St. -- now East Fourth Street) and made its repurtation because of its popularity with the members of Cleveland's theatrical crowd. For 50 years, Otto Moser's was a favorite place for the actors and actresses performing in nearby theatres that included the Euclid Avenue Opera House, the Star Theatre, the White Elephant, The Prospect and the Hippodrome. The stars would often drop in between acts of their shows and leave autographed pictures which were displayed in cases opposite the bar.

When the Euclid Avenue Opera House was torn down in 1922 and the theatre district moved to Playhouse Square, the restaurant suffered but survived. Customers enjoyed the the pictures of the long-ago stars and were amazed to find out that the now run-down street once was home to Cleveland's most opulent theatre.

When the Playhouse Square Theatres were revived in the 1980s, the restaurant suffered even more and in 1994 the owners packed up the pictures, the 52' bar, six mounted animal heads (which included Bullwinkle a moose!) and moved them all down to 1425 Euclid Ave in the Bulkley Bulding in Playhouse Square.

They continued their theatrical tradition until September, 2018. However, when Republic Food and Drink moved into the vacated space, they wanted to retain the theatrical/historical ambiance and they were allowed to scan some of the pictures from the original collection. These new versions now adorn the walls of the new restaurant.
