Lost Restaurants Of Downtown Cleveland

An e-mail from Peggie Brown on June 23, 2018

My mom, sister and I would take the BRT (Brecksville Road Transit) from Independence to Cleveland (read "downtown" because that is what we called the Big City[)]. The bus made only one stop in Cleveland - at the Terminal Tower, which is where you got off and got on to go back home. My mom would do her shopping at the various stores. Occasionally we were treated to a frosty on the lower level of one of the main stores (possibly May Co.). Lunch occasionally at the Silver Grille. However, usually we ate lunch on the lower level of either Kresge's or Woolworth's at their counter (can't remember which one). My sister and I would feel so grown-up sitting at the counter, eating our BLT's, drinking our milk . People waiting for a seat would stand right behind you.

I also remember going to Chef Hector's as a teen-ager or young adult with my mother and her "lady friends". One of her friends was the sister of Chef Boyardee - Hector Boiardi. All the workers would say hello to all of us; we felt very special.
