An e-mail from Morris Eckhouse on September 19, 2018 Hi Bette Lou, I hope this is not too late and that your project is going well. As a kid, in particular, I remember the Silver Grille at Higbee's and the Minotaur Room at Halle's. I found precious little about the Minotaur Room on the Internet, but it does get a mention in the book Cleveland's Department Stores. I also remember the Harvey House on the lower level of Terminal Tower. I'd take the Rapid Transit from Shaker Heights downtown, get a hamburger at Harvey House, and then walk down to the Stadium to watch the Indians. Around that same time (early 1970s) I recall a Wendy's on the north side of Euclid Avenue close to Public Square. It may have been one of the first. For many years, Top of the Town was a destination to celebrate special events. John Q's on Public Square was another favorite, especially because of its sport memorabilia. We also liked the New York Spaghetti House on East Ninth Street. In the late 1980s and/or early 1990s my wife Maria and I would go to the Theatrical. I recall Norm N. Nite would come in and play oldies and I think there was a dance floor. I'd have Caesar Salad. Of course, that was during the final stages of the last version of that restaurant. When I was
working downtown in the late 1980s and through the 1990s I'd eat at
the Wendy's at the corner of Fourth and Euclid where the Corner Alley
is now. I also often ate lunch in the food court at Tower City. All the best, Return to the Lost Restaurants Stories Page Return to the Lost Restaurants Home Page
