Lost Restaurants Of Downtown Cleveland

An e-mail from J.H. Flora on June 12, 2018

There were several Fred Harvey restaurants in the Union Terminal area under the Terminal Tower. The Choo-Choo Lounge was a bar and restaurant with a facade that looked like train cars. There was also a Fred Harvey snack bar. Note that the Fred Harvey chain was featured in the Judy Garland movie, "The Harvey Girls."

Captain Frank's on the 9th street pier was always a good place to visit.

Black Angus was at 14th and Euclid. Around 1970 and the building was turned into the Rusty Scupper. The Rusty Scupper was one of the first to have a brick and natural wood decor. The Rathskeller was a bar and deli in the Euclid Ninth Tower (Schofield Building). Up until the time it closed in the early 2000's it kept the same décor and ambiance it had when it opened in the early part of the 20th century.

The Hanna Building, also at 14th and Euclid, has had a succession of restaurants in it over the years. All of them in the same, attractive space.

Boukair's Seesweet Restaurant just east of the Hanna Building was a popular place at Playhouse Square.
