Lost Restaurants Of Downtown Cleveland

An e-mail from Linda on May 3, 2018

That book and program sounds like a GREAT idea. When I was a little girl, I can remember dining at Clark's Restaurant. I think there was one on Detroit Avenue (on the north side of the street) in Lakewood, somewhere near Warren Road and I'm pretty sure that there was another one in downtown Cleveland on Euclid, maybe around 3rd. I remember that you could pick out a toy from a toybox.

I also remember, when I was older, going with my father and mother to East 9th Street where we'd eat at the Forum Cafeteria. I think it was two levels, and we'd eat upstairs. I remember how neat it was to be able to see the food before you ordered it, so you knew exactly what you were getting.

I'm sorry that I don't have any menus or photos for either of them.

However, when I was getting married in 1974, my batchelorette party was at the New York Spaghetti House (by default). Because we were young and dressed in the fashion of the time (bell bottom jeans and halter tops) they would not let us into the Kon Tiki, which is where we were supposed to dine. I'm pretty sure that I could find some photos of that dinner. I also remember going there with my parents when I was younger and also going there with my new husband and daughter and other family members over the years. Sometimes, when we were in downtown Cleveland, we'd just stop in and order a quart of their wonderful spaghetti sauce to take home.

Sounds like a wonderful project,

Linda
